Michael Marks opened his first market stall in Leeds in 1884, follow in his footsteps with our M&S Heritage Trail.

Our M&S Heritage Trail takes you on a fascinating journey through Leeds.

Bringing together the rich M&S heritage in Leeds, the trail takes visitors from our market stall at Kirkgate Market to our unique exhibition here at the Archive. Visiting key sights such as the site of our first store in Cross Arcade, you’ll explore the history of Leeds from an M&S perspective! Created in partnership with the University of Leeds and Leeds City Council’s Library Service, the trail is part of a suite of maps produced by the Council to help visitors explore the city.

 

Please note these corrections to information on the map:

  • Archive opening hours are 10am-4pm Monday – Friday and the second Saturday of each month.
  • Leeds Visitor Centre is no longer located at Leeds Art Gallery. Please see the Visit Leeds website for more information.
